1.1 Product Overview
Congratulations on your purchase of the Lui-Braille device! This device offers an interactive way to learn Braille, featuring natural voice prompts for a user-friendly experience. Additionally, it functions as a Bluetooth keyboard for iOS devices, enhancing typing efficiency. Let's get started on your Braille learning journey!

1.3 Physical Description and Positioning
The Lui-Braille device is a rectangular device measuring approximately 6.5cm wide, 10cm long, and 2cm thick. To ensure that you are holding the device correctly, please make sure that the front side with all the buttons are facing away from you, with the bottom side that has a charging port pointing to the ground.
1.3.1 Front face of the Lui-Braille
The front face features total 12 buttons and a speaker grill for voice prompts.
1.3.1.1 The buttons
Top left: Backspace
Top middle: Repeat last spoken instruction
Top right: Enter
Braille Six dot buttons: Dot 1, 2, and 3 on the left side, Dot 4, 5, and 6on the right side
Long button between dot buttons: Spacebar
Bottom left: Volume Down in standalone mode. Scroll left one page in iPhone mode.
Bottom right: Volume Up in standalone mode. Scroll right one page in iPhone mode.
***When turning on the device, long press any of the button for two seconds to learn its function.
1.3.2 Back face of the Lui-Braille
The back face has grooves for attachment to a special phone case for mounting the device onto your phone.

1.3.4 Bottom side of the Lui-Braille
The bottom face has a Type C port for charging, a 3.5mm earphone jack, and a LED light that flashes green when the device is switched on.
1.3.5 Left side of the Lui-Braille
The Mode Selector switch, located near the top, toggles between three modes as following :
1.3.5.1 Top: Braille 26 Alphabet mode
This mode teaches the user the 26 characters from the English alphabet in Braille, starting from A and ending with Z. it is highly recommended to start with this mode.
1.3.5.2 Middle: iOS Bluetooth keyboard mode
This mode allows the user to connect the Lui-Braille to their iOS device, from iPhone to iPads. They can then use the six dots or eight dots buttons to type, as well as the other buttons to navigate the interface. Please refer to part 2 of this user manual in how to connect Lui-Braille to your iOS device.
1.3.5.3 Bottom: Braille Number mode
This exercise serves to introduce users to Braille number signs while familiarizing them with the starter numbers. It is advisable to undertake this mode following completion of the 26 Alphabet mode, as it builds upon foundational knowledge and enhances comprehension.
1.3.6 Right side of the Lui-Braille
Another switch on the right side turns the device on and off. Flick it up to turn the device on.
2.1 iOS with Lui-Braille
This mode facilitates seamless connection between the Lui-Braille device and iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads. Users can utilise the six dots for typing and navigate the interface using other buttons.
2.2 Connecting Lui-Braille with iOS
First in sure that the correct mode is selected, flick the Mode Selector switch to the middle, the voice prompt should then say ‘Welcome to iPhone keyboard mode, please turn on your iPhone’s Bluetooth and VoiceOver for pairing with Lui-Braille now’.
Head over to your iOS device’s Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Braille >
Set the input and output to 6 Dot contracted or non-contracted mode and the Braille table to English Unified System. Then scroll all the way down to the bottom, under Choose a Braille Display, double-tap on Lui-Braille. If prompted for a pin, Enter 0000.
Once successful, the voice on the device will inform the user follow by your iOS device making a connection sound.
On the same Braille setting page, please set the Braille Alert Messages to OFF, Ignore Chord Duration to zero second, and Auto Advance Duration to zero point five second. These three settings are to minimise the iOS voice feedback delay under 6 Dot Braille mode.
You can now enter a text area such as notes or a message, and start typing what you learned from the two learning modes.
3.1 Conclusion
Please note that the Lui-Braille device features a powerful instruction voice that guides both visually impaired and sighted users through the device's functions upon powering it on. As such, detailed instructions for operating the device are primarily conveyed audibly. Additionally, it's worth noting that while the user manual provides instructions for various functions and operations, certain aspects such as finger placement and tactile learning are best facilitated through the device's powerful voice prompts during tutorials.
